What is inositol?

Inositol (sometimes referred to as vitamin B8) is a type of sugar made in the body, and naturally occurs in certain foods such as citrus fruits, wholegrains and fibre-rich foods. It is a component of cell membranes, plays a role in the communication between cells, and helps to support both hormone balance and the body’s response to insulin. 99% of inositol in nature is present in the form of myo-inositol and we have used this form as it has greater absorption than the D-chiro form.

Who is it for?

Supplementation of myo-inositol has become popular and it is now widely recommended, particularly for women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and for metabolic syndrome.

Cells require inositol to regulate various functions mediated by hormones and it is an important component in the development and maturation of eggs. Although inositol occurs naturally in certain foods, many women with PCOS suffer from an inositol deficiency. Supplementing with myo-inositol can therefore assist in maintaining levels of this important nutrient.
